Fox Twitter account hacked, claims Obama dead
Hackers broke into an official Twitter account operated by Fox News early yesterday and posted a series of tweets that claimed President Barack Obama had been assassinated.
The Twitter feed for Fox News' political news - FoxNewspolitics - sent out a series of "malicious and false tweets", starting around 2am local time (4pm AEDT), Fox News confirmed in a statement. The posts had not been taken down hours later.The hacker group gained access to @foxnewspolitics and started tweeting the fake information to 33,000 followers at about 2 am local time,The message was claimed by a group calling itself the ScriptKiddies.
Other suspect messages followed immediately describing in detail the alleged aggression against the leader of the White House. “Barack Obama died 45 minutes ago, was shot twice in the pelvic area and in the neck. The murderer was not identified. President died of a heavy hemorrhage”, said another message.Obama plans to spend the July Fourth holiday at a barbecue at the White House with military families and administration staffers.
Secret Service spokesman George Olgilvie says the agency wouldn't comment on the tweets.
