Actor and Electronic Engineer R. Madhavan says that "I didn’t want a 9 to 5 job! and take up engineering to satisfy my family;s protocol"
From TV to films, his career has been on a very consistent upswing. A trained electronics engineer with passions like aero modeling and skiing, communicating and public speaking, Indian actor, writer, film producer and TV host R Madhavan is making the best of both worlds - life and his profession. Living life on ones own terms and still doing what is best for everyone around him, he share’s his tips with Lata Khubchandani, on living life optimally.
Q. What did you want to do, when in school?
A. I was aware of what I didn’t want to do – a 9 to 5 job! I didn’t want to stick to a routine.
Q. Why did you take up engineering then?
A. To satisfy my family’s protocol.
Q. How did education mould your sensibilities?
A. I had the good fortune of finishing my education across the world - Bihar, Kolhapur Canada, USA. I learnt how to fit into different groups. The lifestyle in Canada during high school was westernised. Kolhapur (engineering) was totally different. But I fitted in and achieved more here than in Canada. I took up public speaking, won a lot of competitions. A friend and I would decide, which competitions to enter depending on the prize money!
Q. Were your parents upset?
A. I got the Electronics Engineering Degree with a lot of hard work but when I didn’t take it up as a career, they were disappointed but not heartbroken. They knew I was a survivor. I was earning Rs. 60,000 to 70,000 a month teaching public speaking and communication skills in college. Plus I had been abroad so many times on so many scholarships including as an NCC cadet that they knew I’d be okay.

A: Madhur was made aware of her pregnancy before the shooting went on floors. Ash has been finishing her shots with ease and ensuring that she finishes her work before she puts on a lot of weight. Ash is still making public appearances and is looking plump as well. And that has also made Madhur wary of a lot of things. The kind of shots he has been taking are all his wide angle shots. Madhur has also used a second camera to do the close up shots so that he does not need to get the same location later as well.
2: What happens to other announcements like Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ladies And Gentlemen’?
A: This film may well be shelved or postponed. Santoshi had been refused by many actors and his film ‘Power’ went powerless after Ajay Devgn pulled out of it. His Katrina Kaif starrer also had to be shelved because the actress was not giving him dates. That left him with this film starring Abhishek and Ash. But then this romantic comedy may well be shelved because of that.
3: What happens to Ashutosh Gowariker’s dream of uniting Ash and SRK?
A: Well, that does not seem possible for a few years now.

Salman Khan is pretty excited these days bcz his Ready is Super Hit and ex-flame Katrina Kaif has nothing to do with this. His film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is going to be the first to be shot in Iraq.
YashRaj Films had written a letter to the Iraq government few months ago requesting for permission to shoot the action sequences in the country. The government not only granted permission for shoot, they also promised security measures and chopper services from one shoot location to the other.
The director is scheduled to leave for Iraq today to scout around for the exact locations for shoot. Kabir will be zeroing down on the spots where Salman will shoot. He will return in a week and after that, he will go to Iraq with Salman, in August.

The blunt Nitya decided to go public. “Shruti has replaced me in the project and it is Siddharth who wanted her in the movie and made me get out of it,” says the actress.

Shah Rukh Khan who has been writing his autobiography for several years is almost ready with it. The book, titled Twenty Years In A Decade, will mainly focus during the period elapsing from 1991 to 2001."I have written a book and its complete now. I will ask my writer friends to edit it, so that I can release it. I have been writing it for the last 10 years. It is titled Twenty Years In A Decade because I feel that in ten years I have lived a life of 20 years." SRK said."The book is about positivity, hope and it is also funny, just like me. I have written things about my life with a tinge of humour," Shah Rukh added.SRK made his acting debut in 1988 with the television series Fauji, and in 1989 did another TV soap called Circus. The actor made his Bollywood debut with Raj Kanwar's Deewana in 1992 alongside Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti. The film was a box office hit.Sharing details about his book, King Khan said: " There are very personal things in it... though selective memories. Also, there is a chapter on journalism."
