Unable to earn a living from their rice fields or not having land to grow rice, a number of farmers have to leave their villages to work as laborer in Phnom Penh city. In the city, they work as construction workers, transportation workers, cyclo drivers, small merchants selling from carts, or even beg. They cannot earn enough to afford renting a decent place to stay, therefore, they have no choice but to live in the streets or along people’s houses. Where these poor people live is never permanent, sometimes, they have to move to different places due to weather, or some are disturbed by drug-addicts teens or by the cops.
