Pippa at 13: The 'tough' sports star with a winning smile

By JO MACFARLANE

Gifted: Pippa Middleton was the star of the school's netball team

Fresh-faced and long-limbed,a young Pippa Middleton smiles proudly for the camera in the green kit of her school netball team.

The 13-year-old, already a star on the sports field, according to her former teachers at St Andrew's School in Berkshire – is shown sitting alongside her team-mates as they giggle and pose for the photograph.

Another previously unseen shot reveals the Duchess of Cambridge's sister in her smart school uniform, relaxing with friends in her housemaster's flat.

Sociable: Pippa, centre, and friends in their housemaster's flat

With her shoulder-length hair already tied in what looks like an early version of Kate's wedding demi-chignon, she looks like any other carefree schoolgirl .

The pictures were taken by Kevin Allford, who was housemaster to Pippa and Kate at the £13,000-a-year preparatory school in the Nineties.

Mr Allford, who now lives in Carmarthen, said: 'Pippa was like her sister and did everything at 100mph. They both loved sport, but Pippa was particularly talented.

SPORTY: Pippa, far right, with the school netball team

'She always smiled and was forever winning medals and trophies. The reason everyone thinks she's got a wonderful figure is because of the amount of time she's spent playing sport in her lifetime. With Pippa, it was hours and hours a day.'

Pippa, now 27, is two years younger than Kate, who had already left the school when these photo-graphs were taken.

The sisters were sent to the all-girls school as day pupils when they were eight. They stayed at St Andrew's until they were 13, ¬boarding for their final two years.

Runner: At 27, Pippa is still sporty and ran a triathlon last month

The girls were both known for their bright personalities and sporting talent but they did differ, according to Mr Allford.

'Pippa was tough, not like Catherine. She never seemed anything other than bright and ¬bubbly. If she fell down, she picked herself up and just got on with it.

'She knew exactly who she was and was a delight. There were never arguments with the other girls, never a piece of lost kit or grumbling.'

A death foretold: The rapid rise and tragic fall of Amy Winehouse, the deeply flawed soul prodigy

By PAUL BENTLEY

In just 27 years, Amy Winehouse has managed to leave behind her a soul legacy, with a band of modern British female soul singers - Adele, Duffy, Jessie J - celebrating success across the world borne almost entirely in her wake.

Sadly, however, the immeasurably gifted singer is unlikely to be remembered for her talents, which were so often starved; drowned by drink and tranquillised by drug abuse.

Amy Winehouse's death was one foretold by gruesome pictures of bloody plimsolls and near death experiences from drugs publicly retold by her lovers. It almost seems unsurprising that, in death, Winehouse joins many of her heroes - Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison - all of whom died aged just 27.

Innocent: Winehouse before the career, the drugs, the drink and the scandal. Aged just two (left) and eight

Her parents split when she was nine years old and she and older brother Alex moved to live with their mother in Southgate, North London - just minutes away from The Priory, the rehab clinic favoured by celebrities, which she would revisit just months before her death.

'She was always very self-willed,' her father Mitch told Rolling Stone in 2007. 'Not badly behaved but...different.'

Keeping things simple: A fresh-faced Amy performs wearing just a white T-shirt and jeans back in 2004 and at the Q Awards the same year

The balance between her precocious musical talents and a seeming inclination to self-destruct were clear from a young age. At just 12, Winehouse enrolled at the Sylvia Young Theatre School but was expelled not long after for getting her nose pierced.

She had previously - aged 10 -formed a rap group, Sweet 'n' Sour - Winehouse was Sour - that she later described as 'the little white Jewish Salt 'n' Pepa.'

She joined the Brit School and by 16 her otherworldly soul voice - deep, full and knowing but light and fresh and fragile at the same time - had won her a contract with Simon Fuller's management company, which led to her being signed by Island Records.

A tattoo appears: Winehous still looking fresh faced in 2005, and sporting her new tattoo the next year

In 2003, she would release her first album - to much critical acclaim - while also meeting the man with whom she would share possibly the most destructive celebrity relationship of the decade.

The jazz-influenced debut, titled 'Frank', was critically praised for its gems - the anthemic Stronger Than Me, about a weak, feminine boyfriend and F**k Me Pumps, in which she ridiculed tired female gold-diggers, and earned Winehouse an Ivor Novello songwriting award, two Brit nominations and a spot on the shortlist for the Mercury Music Prize.

But Winehouse soon expressed dissatisfaction with the disc, saying she was 'only 80 per cent behind' the album.

Losing weight: The singer has acquired more tattos at the 2007 Brit Awards, left, and looks gaunt at the MTV music video awards in Losa Angeles in the same year

That same year, she met Blake Fielder-Civil at a bar and swiftly had his name tattooed above her heart.

The relationship was on-off and infamously tempestuous, involving drug and drink binges. In one picture from 2007, she was seen with bruises on her face and blood seeping from her pink ballet shoes.

She grips Blake, as he displays a face full of scratches after a particularly viscious late night bust-up.

The voice: Amy Winehouse's talent was such that it has opened doors for many other young female soul singers who have earned huge success since her breakthrough. She is pictured performing in 2008

By 2006, after three years with Blake, rapid weight loss, an ever-expanding beehive hairdo and documented drug and drink problems, Winehouse released Back to Black, her breakthrough album, which made her a huge star across the world.

Working with producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi and soul-funk group the Dap-Kings, Winehouse fused soul, jazz, doo-wop and, above all, a love of the girl-groups of the early 1960s with lyrical tales of romantic obsession and emotional excess.

Back to Black was released in the United States in March 2007 and went on to win five Grammy awards, including song and record of the year for Rehab.

'I did [go to rehab], for just 15 minutes,' she told The Sun at the time. 'I went in and said, "Hello" and explained that I drink because I'm in love and have f****d up the relationship. Then I walked out.'

Winehouse's rise was helped by her distinctive look - black beehive of hair, thickly lined cat eyes, girly tattoos - and her tart tongue.

She was famously blunt in her assessment of her peers, once describing Dido's sound as 'background music - the background to death' and saying of pop princess Kylie Minogue, 'she's not an artist ... she's a pony.'

The songs on Black to Black detailed her relationship with Blake with a similar frankness.

Winehouse stood by 'my Blake' throughout his trial, often blowing kisses at him from the court's public gallery and wearing a heart-shaped pin labelled 'Blake' in her hair at concerts. But British newspapers reported extramarital affairs while Fielder-Civil was behind bars. They divorced in 2009.

After the split, Fielder-Civil described how he thought Winehouse had died in his arms following a three-day drugs binge.

Amy went into a seizure at a party at her home in Camden, North London, and had stopped breathing.

Blake told The Sun: 'She started having a fit on the bed. She slid down on to the floor before I could stop her. She started quivering again and it suddenly grew into what seemed like a full-blown epileptic fit.

'I was panicking. I didn't know know how to help her. I was out of it on drugs as well - and was sobbing and crying out, "Amy!"'

Trial: Amy is photographed as she is led to court for an appearance

'At first nothing happened. So I did it again. I was feeling for her pulse because I thought her heart might have stopped.

'Then she spluttered - and I saw her chest rise. I was still sobbing and panicking but I just felt this huge relief that she was alive.'

In June 2008 and again in April 2010, Winehouse was taken to hospital and treated for injuries after fainting and falling at home.

Her father said she had developed the lung disease emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack, although her spokeswoman later said Winehouse only had 'early signs of what could lead to emphysema.'

Stern: Winehouse was accused of attacking a theatre manager in Milton Keynes

She left the hospital to perform at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert in Hyde Park in June 2008, and at the Glastonbury festival the next day, where she received a rousing reception but scuffled with a member of the crowd.

She also, in 2010, pleaded guilty to assaulting a theatre manager who asked her to leave a family Christmas show because she'd had too much to drink.

She was given a fine and a warning to stay out of trouble by a judge who praised her for trying to clean up her act.

In a bid to save her ailing health and desperate addiction problems, Winehouse most recently booked herself into rehab in May.

A month previously she had pulled out of her European tour after she was jeered while appearing drunk on stage at her comeback gig in Serbia.

She left the stage frequently, with her band having to improvise in her absence, and was said to have mumbled through parts of her songs.

After the disastrous gigs, the stint at The Priory in May was hoped to have been a means finally to refocus the young singer.

Winehouse, however, checked herself out after just one week.

By SARAH BULL

Comes after Winehouse was booed off stage after shambolic Serbian show
Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home in London.

The scene: Amy was pronounced dead this afternoon after emergency services arrived at her house in north London

The Back To Black singer was found at the property by emergency services at 3.54pm, and it's believed Winehouse's death was due to a suspected drug overdose.

Winehouse was apparently 'beyond help' when paramedics arrived, according to Sky sources.

Sources have also claimed Winehouse's death was due to a drug overdose.

Two ambulance crews arrived at the scene within five minutes and a paramedic on a bicycle also attended, according to a spokeswoman.

'Sadly the patient had died,' she added.

Tragic: Winehouse's body is seen being removed from her home

A statement from Winehouse's U.S. record label read: 'We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer.

'Our prayers go out to Amy's family, friends and fans at this difficult time.'

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: 'Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

'On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drama: Members of the press and local residents watch as Winehouse's body is taken to the van

'Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.’

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said in a press conference this evening that no cause of death had yet been confirmed.

He said: 'I am aware of reports of a suspected drugs overdose, but I would like to reremphaise that no post-mortem has yet taken place and it would be inapproporaite to speculate on the cause of death.

Last public appearance: Amy joined goddaughter Dionne Bromfield on stage during the iTunes festival on Wednesday night

'The death of any person is a sad time of friends and family especially for someone known nationally and internationally like Amy Winehouse. My sympathy extends not only to her family but also to her millions of fans across the world.'

A spokesman for the late singer said: 'Everyone involved with Amy is shocked and devastated.

'Our thoughts are with her family and friends. The family will issue a statement when ready.'

It has also been claimed on gossip website RadarOnline.com that Winehouse's autopsy could take place within the next 24 hours.

Healthy: Amy was spotted out in London looking healthier earlier this month

A Scotland Yard spokesman is quoted by the website as saying: 'The postmortem has not been scheduled yet but it is unlikely to take place before tomorrow.

'In the case of a murder it can be done within hours but this is not the case so tomorrow or even Monday is more likely in these circumstances.'

Mourning: Floral tributes are left outside Amy's house as news breaks of her death

Winehouse had been seen with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield earlier this week as the teenager took to the stage at the iTunes festival.

She refused to join in for Mama Said, but did support the 14-year-old with a few dance moves before urging the crowd to buy Dionne's new album Good For The Soul.
A source said: 'Amy staggered onstage and grabbed the mic to beg the crowd to buy her protege’s new album.'

Winehouse's appearance at the concert came after she cancelled her European tour following a disastrous performance in June when she stumbled onto the stage in Belgrade and gave an incoherent performance appearing very disorientated and removed from reality.

Heartfelt: One note from a local resident states how much the singer will be missed in her local community

The singer featured on the Sunday Times Rich List earlier this year with an estimated net worth of around £6million.

During her career, Winehouse won awards including five Grammy Awards, a Q Music Award for Best Album for Back To Black and a World Music Award in 2008 for World's Best Selling Pop/Rock Female Artist.

It seems Shiloh has a rival in the bid to be Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's coolest little kid.

Little Knox, who turns three in two weeks, made a fashion statement of his own in a pair of dark sunglasses while on an outing with his famous mother and twin sister Vivienne in London today.

It comes just days after Shiloh, five, styled out a pair of flashy green shutter shades at Los Angeles airport.

Jolie and her twins were leaving a cinema in Richmond after the entire brood - including Maddox, 9, Pax, 7, Zahara, 6, and Shiloh - enjoyed a private screening of the new Harry Pottter film.

Double trouble: Pax and Maddox climb into the waiting mini van but can't help but show their cheeky sides

The film, which is rated PG-13, is said to contain some sequences of intense action violence and frightening images.

Yet care-free parent Angelina still took the whole family to watch the action-packed film.

As the family left the theatre after watching the movie a small crowd gathered and local police came to their assistance at they piled into a waiting mini-van.

Pax, nine, couldn't help but show his cheeky side, sticking his tongue out at the onlookers while wrestling with his older brother Maddox as they climbed into the car.

Carefree: Angelina appeared relaxed as she wrangled her brood into a waiting car

The Tourist star wore a chic, all black pants ensemble and black boots while carrying a large Louis Vuitton tote bag.

Of course, it is no surprise the star was carrying the designer luggage - she recently starred in a Louis Vuitton 'Core values' ad campaign which she shot in Cambodia.

The ads are set to run for 18 months and will feature other celebrity humanitarians like Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, the founder of fashion line EDUN.

The family are in the British capital while dad Brad Pitt films scenes for his new movie World War Z.

Food for thought... Angelina Jolie's boys Maddox and Pax eat crickets 'like Doritos'

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Exotic diet: Angelina Jolie has introduced her boys Maddox and Pax to crickets - but they're so addicted to them she's had to limit their intake

She is as well known for her eccentric behaviour as she is for her fill career.
And now actress Angelina Jolie has revealed her children have developed some bizarre habits - including eating crickets.

Miss Jolie - whose partner is Hollwood heart-throb Brad Pitt, 47 - says her adopted sons Maddox and Pax have a penchant for snacking on crickets which she admits she encouraged.

The 36-year-old introduced the youngsters to the south-east Asian delicacy while they were away in Cambodia.

Delicacy: Fried crickets are commonplace in south eastern Asia

And, though she initially had to encourage her sons to eat the insects, they were soon eating so many that Angelina had to limit their intake.

In a video shot for Louis Vuitton's Core Values campaign in Cambodia, she said: 'My boys love to eat crickets. It's their favourite thing.

'When I first gave it to them... I wanted them not to be turned off by something that was of their culture. They ate them like Dorito's, and they wouldn't stop.

Not for the girls?: Zahara and Shiloh dont' seem to have been included in the cricket feast

'They brought to-go boxes home and I had to actually ban the cricket eating at a certain point because I was afraid they were going to get sick from too many. But they're good - they are like a potato chip.'

In Vietnam and Cambodia, where Pax, seven, and Maddox, nine, are from respectively, it is common to eat fried crickets on sticks from a street vendor.

Paris Hilton storms out of TV interview after anchor asks if she's past her prime

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

That's not hot: Paris Hilton lost her cool during an interview with ABC News at her Los Angeles mansion this week

Paris Hilton stormed out of a U.S TV interview after she was asked if she was past her prime.

The reality TV star took offence at the question and pulled the plug on the interview with Dan Harris of ABC News at her Los Angeles mansion.

She first become agitated when the journalist suggested she had been eclipsed by her best friend turned rival, Kim Kardashian.

He asked: 'Do you worry at times that people who have followed in your footsteps like Kim Kardashian are over shadowing you?'

Tension in the air: The reality TV star became agitated when anchor Dan Harris suggested her friend turned rival Kim Kardashian had overshadowed her

Through gritted teeth, she replied: 'No, not at all.'

She became even more irritated when mentioned that her latest reality TV show The World According to Paris has struggled in the ratings.

The journalist continued: 'Do you worry about your moment having passed?'

Hilton, 30, glanced across at her publicist off camera before getting up from her chair and stormed out.

She could be heard saying off camera: 'I don't want all this being used.'

And she's off: The reality star walked away when Harris suggested her 'moment' had passed

After a 'heated' discussion between Harris, Hilton and her publicist, she eventually returned to camera to deliver an apparently well-rehearsed answer.

'I've been doing this for 15 years now, so it's been a long time so just like any other business person or someone in the industry, it is always important to reinvent yourself and come up with new projects,' she said.

Before that Hilton had been happy to discuss her changing career.
'So many people that are rich do nothing.
